I‘m happy to announce that the blog is teaming up with Dre from Things Dre Makes for the whole of May, which is not uncoincidently Mental Health Awareness month. Dre is a fabulous illustrator and artist, and we both wanted to mark this month with something artistic.

Enter #PersonifyME.

Pixar Disney had their turn depicting emotions and the struggles within the mind when they released Inside Out. Not to diminish their efforts, winning an Oscar isn’t too bad, but we want more. Funny cartoons are nice but real struggles of real people should be talked about and shared. No one – as of yet – can look into your mind and see exactly what is going on. So now is an opportunity for you to show everyone.

The Task

Well, it is rather simple. #PersonifyME is about personifying an emotion in your mind. If it was a person, what would it look like. The aim here is to visualise a difficult emotion you’ve been struggling with recently and pour that onto a page in pretty much anyway you like. We want to see what your anxiety, depression, happiness, creativity and all these other things look like.

Here are a few pointers to get you going:

  1. Name/identify your emotion.
  2. What colour is your emotion?
  3. Does it have a shape?
  4. What facial characteristics does it have?
  5. If it were a person, what would he/she/it look like?

To give you a few ideas you can check out Dre’s effort here.

What should I do next?

Once you have your creation, whatever it maybe. You have the option to add some words with it, express what the picture means, your story, your battles. This piece should be about you. So heres the rub, we need:

  • An Original Image (ideally 1280 by 855 pixels, if not don’t worry)
  • 300+ words (optional)
  • Submit to:
  • Social media/blog links
  • Post is on your social media/Instagram with the tag #PersonifyME

The Giveaway

Anyone who follows the blog regularly will know that the last project was amazing and people loved it failed, which is great, because it means the giveaway for that project will move onto this one. It is a cool giveaway, full of artwork, a letter, pencils, stickers, magnets, a journal, artwork and it goes on.

We need at least 15 submissions for the giveaway to come into effect and we pick a winner at random at the end of the month – so it is not based on your artistic ability,

We will post anywhere in the world.

Sharing is caring, share the post and get more people involved. We are really looking forward to seeing the entries.

Of course! It was won by Aussiearmywife! Still haven’t officially announced the winner but they have been informed and the care package is on the way to them! A finally post on the project will go up as soon as I have time 🙂
