#PersonifyME: Wendy

We share a body, a personality, even a name in every way that doesn’t really matter.  She is me and she is not me.  She was born from years of broken relationships, people taking advantage of me and others abandoning me when I needed them most.  It is she that speaks with my mouth the first time that you and I  meet.  She tells you all that she deems you are currently worthy to know and hides from you the things she believes you haven’t earned the right to hear.  She smiles, makes you comfortable and will be very kind to you.  It is she that makes it seem that we are already best friends.  All the while she is plotting every word test and other various trust trials that you will need to pass to gain access to the next “level” closer to the real me.  This process is lengthy and involved.  When or if you realize that she is not the real me you will wonder if you’re ever going to get to the actual me.  You may begin to wonder if you really want to.  Is it worth all the hassle?

I can promise that it is worth the energy and patience.  Once you have truly joined those of my “inner circle” you will have earned a friend for life.

There is no one more reliable or caring that those you have to work to find and keep.

This project is run in partnership with Things Dre Makes, and will run for the whole month of May – Mental Health Awareness Month. The idea is to personify a mental illness or difficult emotion you are facing.
